Denver band, The Congress, has been making music for awhile now and they work hard at it. They play from coast to coast, running up and down the Front Range in between. And this summer, at Loveland’s Arise Music Festival, they will have you up off of your seat and howling for more.
Their sound is distinctly southern-rock, with a little psych bleeding through. Everything from their jammy guitar riffs and harmonic vocal interludes to their throwback long locks ( and lead, Jonathan Meadows’ spectacular trucker’s beard), will remind you of something you’ve known and loved, but it’s all brand new. Like Pandas & People, they take the jam-band sense of lighthearted fun and slim it down. In their case, more Widespread Panic than String Cheese Incident. These days, I would gravitate toward this much more than either. And, it’s a perfect summer festival find.
There are, of course, many, many other very good and well known national touring acts playing Arise that may draw you to the festival but as one of a handful of locals playing, you would be remiss in skipping The Congress.
